This is the End

Well, the long road has finally come to an end. Maybe long was an understatement, but what the heck, it’s the last blog! As I began to reflect on the past months of this class I had mostly fond thoughts. I felt challenged at almost every turn but nothing too difficult that I couldn’t handle it. I felt the work was adequately challenging and I truly did learn quite a lot, but not from places that I had expected out of a research paper class. I felt the skill I learned the most was how to critically think more efficiently. I felt this especially when it came to the required readings. Animal Farm once again tested the limits of my imagination. I really enjoyed reading it again, but this time with a more critical eye. I was able focus on the main themes and look for specifics, not just read it for fun. On Bullshit was quite interesting. Although I still don’t fully understand the essay, even after reading it multiple times. Reading Lolita in Tehran, what can I say. I know I have already stated that of the three readings it was my least favorite. I’m going to take that back. After basically finishing my research paper and really focusing on the lives of the girls, I have become quite fond of it. I really began to enjoy it after the fact, when I would be sitting around doing nothing.

Most of all I enjoyed reading all of your writings. I really feel that my writing became far better as a result of your comments and feedback. It was nice to be able to express ourselves each and every week with this blog, and I think I’ll miss it when the class is over. One thing I won’t miss, having five assignments each week! It was difficult to juggle all of those assignments along with a full load from other classes, but we made do. I’m proud to say that I only missed one assignment the entire semester. I felt this was actually quite a feat for me because as the semester hits its third month I begin to shut down and become extremely lazy!

I really hope the rest of you enjoyed the class as much as I did. I had a great time reading all of your interesting ideas and sometimes clashing with ideologies. That’s what made it fun; each one of us was able to express our individual points of view. I really felt this added a lot to the class. I hope you have a wonderful winter season and wish you all luck on your finals! I’ll be transferring after this semester so I won’t see any of you on campus, but I wish you the best of luck in continuing your studies!

  1. I know what you mean about Reading Lolita in Tehran (notice how I spelled out the whole name to pad my word count instead of using “RLiT”). I too developed a greater appreciation for the book while re-re-reading it for my research paper. If we had been told that our last paper was going to be on it, I would have highlighted any relevant passages. I’m still wondering if this was part of the plan…hmm? It also would have been nice to know that we would have to read any of the mentioned texts in the book. But you’re right, it was challenging but nothing that we couldn’t handle – at least not for those few of us that are still remaining. A big kudos to you and everyone else that juggled this class along with other classes. I‘ve enjoyed the class as well as the interaction. Good luck in your future studies

  2. The long road has finally come to an end definitely is an understatement, especially when it comes to this class. I do not know about you but this class took up a lot of my time, but what college class doesn’t suck up all your time anyway? A combination between this class, chemistry, math 130, and art, I definitely had no life this fall semester.
I would have to agree Reading Lolita in Tehran was definitely one of my least favorite books too. I could mention a few more assignments that were my least favorite but it all pays off in the end. I also enjoyed getting feedback on my essays from classmates and collaborating ideas on assignments. Together we all helped each other finish assignments and finish out the class.
Good luck on your finals next week (if you have any) and Good Luck in your future academic career.

  3. I fully agree this class was by far one of the most challenging classes I have ever taken. But I feel that I am a better person for having done so and I am super proud of myself for never giving up and sticking through one hell of a semester. I appreciate all your help and comments throughout the semester and I have personally seen such growth in your writing. I wish you best of luck in all your future classes both here and after AVC. I feel as though I know you so much more after having read each of your post every week, what an amazing thing this posting thing how much and well you can get to know someone. Thank you and I hope you have a wonderful holiday! It has been a pleasure…
